Successful Premiere of Contemporary Istanbul
Fair Sponsored by Deutsche Bank Surpasses All Expectations

Deutsche Bank's VIP-Lounge at Contemporary Istanbul 2007

Hardly anyone would have expected the flood of visitors before the fact. Over 22,000 people interested in art visited the Convention and Exhibition Center from December 20–24, 2006 to see Contemporary Istanbul, the first fair for contemporary art in the region. In the fair hall located at the heart of the city, 65 galleries and institutions presented works by more than 180 artists. This time, the emphasis was still on local participants, but the event's managers have ambitious plans. Over the next several years, Contemporary Istanbul is meant to attract an increasing number of international collectors and art lovers to the booming metropolis on the Bosporus – and advance into the select group of the world's most important fairs for contemporary art.

As the fair's main sponsor, Deutsche Bank was present at Contemporary Istanbul with an exclusive VIP Lounge. Here, figures from important Turkish companies, banks, and collectors came together far from the fair's hustle and bustle to learn about Deutsche Bank's art activities. This year, Deutsche Bank will once again actively support the fair: in 2007, the second round of Contemporary Istanbul will take place from September 5–9, at the same time as the opening week of the 10th Istanbul Biennale; the anniversary show of the renowned art exhibition will further increase international interest in the young fair.
