Deutsche Bank at the Frieze Art Fair in London

It did it again. This year, the Frieze Art Fair once again succeeded in turning London into the temporary capital of contemporary art. Over 150 galleries from 21 countries and a number of high-caliber exhibitions lured the international art scene to the Thames. Already at the preview, over 10,000 visitors crowded into the white fair tents in Regent’s Park, including stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law , and Valentino, as well as artists and curators, dealers and collectors, journalists and TV teams. And throughout the four days following, the public poured in too, anxious not to miss this must see event," as the Guardian called it. Probably the most popular art fair in Europe, Frieze was sponsored once again this year by Deutsche Bank. The number of visitors rose by 35 percent to 63,000. Pierre de Weck, Global Head of Private Wealth Management and Member of the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank, commented, "Deutsche Bank, as the main sponsor of the Frieze Art Fair for the third consecutive year, is delighted with the outstanding success of this year’s fair and its impact on the global and London art community. The bank’s involvement with Frieze reflects its long-standing commitment to the arts and to the community."

A quiet eye in the fair’s storm was the Deutsche Bank VIP Lounge, where guests could meet celebrities like Claudia Schiffer and Kate Moss, complete with her little daughter and nanny. Among landscape images by Yehudit Sasportas, Gerard Byrne, and Simon Periton , Dr. Ariane Grigoteit and Friedhelm Hütte, Global Heads of Deutsche Bank Art, greeted numerous prominent guests from the art scene together with their British colleagues. Star architect Zaha Hadid, Lisa Dennison, Nancy Spector and Thomas Krens of the New York Guggenheim, Nicolaus Schafhausen, curator of the German Pavilion at the next Venice Biennale, Tate director Sir Nicholas Serota, curator Norman Rosenthal from the Royal Academy, Michael Lynch, Chief Executive of South Bank Centre, as well as gallery dealers like Bärbel Grässlin, Michael Neff, or Judy Lybke met in the exclusive lounge, whose large panoramic window offered a wonderful view of Regent’s Park. Here, guests could converse undisturbed about the latest fair trends, enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, or peruse the first print edition of db artmag, which was published on the occasion of the fair.

The Deutsche Bank Education Space was also a big success at Frieze. Its four-day program arose in conjunction with the Camden Arts Centre. The workshops were run by artists and were quickly booked out. Regarding the project, Pierre de Weck explained: "We are particularly proud of the success of the exciting Deutsche Bank Education Space, new at the Fair this year. The Education Space welcomed a number of families and inner-city schools to participate in interactive workshops, helping make art more accessible to wider audiences."
